I have to start working on this...

For Christmas, my SIL gave me a $30 gift card to Lane Bryant. For some reason, I did not want to use it until I could wear the smallest size in the store, a 14. At the time, I was a size 24. I put the card in my wallet, and refused to touch it until then.

A little less than 6 months later, I bought a size 14 yesterday. I tried on a few styles in that size to make sure I was in fact a size 14. I was finally able to use the card!

I have been experiencing a lack of confidence lately, but I have to step back and be proud of what I have accomplished. I can’t forget where I started out from during those days that I feel a little down on myself for not quite being out of plus sizes yet.

I think the universe is trying to shake me out of the little confidence funk I've been in. On Friday, an elderly Russian lady called me beautiful during my walk. This morning while I was walking from the garage to my office, a guy called me beautiful and asked if he could take me out (of course not interested, but it felt nice! LOL). In many ways, I still feel like I’m a size 24 and 249 pounds. Logically, I know I’m not…but emotionally is a different story sometimes. It is definitely something I have to work on!

  1. 1. You are in the SMALLEST plus size and in a month, whatever you bought is going to be too big for you and in the give-away pile.

    2. It takes a while to get used to the new you, during and after...a long while. I almost invariably still take too-big clothes into the dressing room to try on (four years into maintenance) and my trainer says I have the worst case of body dysmorphia he's ever encountered...endocrinologist said the same thing. SOAK UP the compliments from others and BELIEVE them!!!!

  2. I totally understand what you mean. In the beginning I had thought the hardest part of loosing weight would be the physical part of working out and watching what I ate but it really has been the mental aspect of adjusting to a smaller me. You are doing great!

  3. Mina, you ARE beautiful. Period. You have earned the compliments, girl - you deserve them! The mental adjustment is different for everyone, and it has been tough for me (as you well know.) Love you.

  5. Awesome!! Definitely be proud of what you have accomplished. Like Norma said- you are in the smallest plus size. Another couple of weeks and you could have just sent me that gift card because it would be of no use to you! Out with Lane Bryant and in with Old Navy! (Is Old Navy cool? I've been shopping at the fat stores so long I have no idea where I will shop when I'm not fat any more.)

    Keep up the good work!!

  7. Wow - size 24 to size 14.....that's pretty incredible!!

I totally hear ya on feeling oh-no-so-confident...
    I struggle with it, too.

I've been thin & I've been heavy and I don't ever recall a time when I didn't feel 'fat.' Sucks....

The mental battle wounds are the hardest ones to heal from!

  8. Congrats on making it to a size 14. That is an amazing accomplishment. Everyone is right, I think. I will probably take a lot longer for your head to catch up to your body.

  9. WOW! Incredible! Size 14 WTG.

When I got down to a size 6 I still felt fat. Now I long for those size 6 clothes. The mental battle is a hard one to beat. Don't give up.

  10. I think you have done AMAZING since the start of your journey. It takes a while for your mind to catch up with your body but the fact that you are the smallest size in Lane Bryant is saying a lot! You are making strides to attain your goals!

It's hard not to be our own worst critics but I think you should take the weekend to celebrate yourself! Do something NICE for yourself!
