You do you, and I'll do me!

I have to expand on the post about my co-worker earlier. We are both the same age, grew up in Brooklyn, and we have a young child, so we have a lot in common. In general, I really enjoy chatting with her, but I’m not sure what is going on with her. When I first mentioned changing my diet and losing weight, she went on and on about how she doesn’t understand dieting, and what was the point, etc. She actually tried to talk me out of it, but I didn’t listen to her. Apparently today she is the expert on “dieting”. In addition to her shipment of pills, etc, now she is preaching to me the benefits of the Daniels Diet (never heard of it), and why it is much better than the way I eat. Mind you, she hasn’t started it yet, but she knows it is better, she heard about it from someone. Going on…and on…and on about it for 10 minutes. She finally JUST stopped talking about it.

I don’t criticize her for anything, I just mind my business, but she keeps making it a point to say what I may be doing wrong. Now, if this new way works for her, that’s awesome, but it’s not for ME. I am very happy with my changes, and I don’t find it too difficult to maintain each day. Why is she trying to convince me I am wrong? I wish her the best, but I also wish she would let me be.

  1. I have always failed to see how someone can think it is healthier to swallow pills to lose weight than it is to eat food. We live on food not pills and we gain weight by how much food we eat and how little we exercise. You are doing it the right way and while she may lose weight, she will put it back on when she has to start eating food again!

  2. She sounds very annoying (..no offense?)

You have obviously influenced her in some way to start wanting to shed weight but she doesn't want to admit it. You keep doing you because you are amazing :)

  3. That is definitely the most frustrating thing. That also happened with someone I knew after I started working out and losing weight again. You can't really argue, you just have to smile and nod and hope that she realizes those things aren't going to work.

Keep going, you're doing amazing! Maybe she will eventually realize that what you're doing DOES work and she'll follow your example. :)

  4. I just commented on the other post how it's a shame she didn't take you as an example of what she could do. Maybe next time she goes on about her way just nicely say to her that you are happy with your method and it's working because you have lost a great amount of weight.

  5. Mina, politely go about your business. "Help" like she gives you suggests other problems and I think the problem is hers not yours. Stay the course and you'll reach your goal. Have a great evening. Blessings...MAry

  6. Sorry I'm just now reading this gal, I've been sickly the past few days.

I hate the way people ask you "What are you doing?" to lose the weight and they actually look offended when you tell them, "Eating less than I'm taking in. And some water and exercise." It's like they are either offended or disappointed.

Just keep smilin and noddin. ;)

  7. Hmmm. If she sees that what you are doing is working for you and you tell her that, then why can't she just leave it alone? A nice, "You're doing a great job, Mina." would suffice, I believe. Have a great Easter, Mina!
